God of Noah and his ark, God of Joseph – sold by his brothers, thrown in jail by a rich man’s wife, God of Moses and the Hebrews, God whose law protects resident aliens, widows, and the poor, God of Jael, David, the prophets, God of Mary and Elizabeth, God whose incarnate power was Jesus Christ
We don’t why you didn’t just make this world a place where people would be always loving and never hateful or violent, but it seems that you didn’t… and that a big part of what it means to be human and disciples is to work in faith for that faint but compelling image of the Kingdom that the resurrection foretells…dynamic life, love, justice, and wholeness
For that work we ask for some special tools
We ask for outlandish dreams for what could be…in our world, in our nation, in our city, in our relationships, and in ourselves
We ask for hearts that can withstand breaking without shrinking…
We ask for friends who will tell us when we are wrong and remind us of our best selves, and march forward with us when the way is unclear, and find reasons to laugh along the way
We ask for the wisdom to know who we are and what gifts we have, and to ask for help when our gifts come up short
We ask for the assurance of your Spirit that we do not fight alone, but with your creative energy and backed by the Saints of thousands of years...
