This Saturday, November 20th, BSM will be co-hosting In the Know, an HIV Expo, an event created and co-hosted by the City Public Health Department, AIDS Service Organizations, and HIV Physician and Nurse Associations.
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) and a consortium of AIDS service organizations (ASOs) are partnering with the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (IAPAC) and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC), to host an In the Know HIV Expo from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Broad Street Ministry (315 S. Broad Street) in Philadelphia.
“The In the Know HIV Expo series is meant to address gaps in HIV literacy and facilitate the diagnosis of new HIV cases and linking people, especially those in most at-risk populations, to care and treatment,” said José M. Zuniga, PhD, IAPAC’s President/CEO. “We hope that our partnership with ANAC, the PDHP, and local ASOs such as ActionAIDS and Broad Street Ministry, will bring in at-risk individuals to know their status, and HIV-positive people who wish to live healthy with HIV.”
Philadelphia’s In the Know HIV Expo will include health seminars on topics ranging from HIV treatment adherence to living a heart-healthy lifestyle. The health seminars will take place from noon to 3 p.m.; a lunch buffet will be available.
Free health screenings will also be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including rapid HIV tests, and syphilis and chlamydia screenings. Additionally, the In the Know HIV Expo will offer free seasonal flu and hepatitis A/B vaccinations.
This In the Know HIV Expo is co-sponsored by IAPAC and ANAC, and the treatment seminar component is made possible through an educational grant support from Merck & Co.
The International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (IAPAC) represents more than 13,000 physicians and allied health care professionals in over 100 countries. Its mission is to improve the quality of care, treatment, and support provided to men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS.
The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) represents more than 2,500 HIV/AIDS- treating nurses in the United States. Its mission is to promote the individual and collective professional development of nurses involved in the delivery of health care to persons infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
We hope that you will join us on Saturday, and spread the word!
