November 2010 BROADcast! Check it out & Repost!

November 2010
Welcome to Broad Street Ministry's online newsletter, BROADcast!
NOVEMBER 2010 EDITION!
WORSHIP @ BSM--November 2010 Schedule
Every Sunday at 6 p.m.
followed by a delicious free dinner!

As a people of faith who strive to build authentic relationships with God and each other, we gather every week to worship the Living God. Trusting that God is big enough and loving enough to hold us and all we're experiencing, we value honest expressions and hard questions. We worship God with words spoken and sung, artistic expression, movement, prayer, and the sacrament of Communion.
Wherever you find yourself spiritually, we welcome and value your presence among us whenever you choose to join us.
Come and praise the God who is with us through it all.
Come and listen for a Word from a God whose name is Love.
Come, and worship.
We would love it if you joined us for dinner served family-style after worship on Sunday evenings. We consider this to be an extension of the transforming table fellowship that begins at the Communion table--a time in which community grows through conversation and a shared meal.

FREE PARKING is available on Sundays along the south side of Pine St between Broad & 13th streets. Pick up a parking permit from the vestibule and throw it on the dashboard--or download it from the BSM website by clicking here.

No Barriers Day & World AIDS Day
We are proud and excited to announce that for 5 years now we have collaborated with AIDS Fund and Sapphire Fund to create the city's largest World AIDS Day event.
This year's event will be held on Wednesday December 1st from 5:30-7:30p.m. in our Cathedral Dining Room. We've been so glad that each year this event has grown and grown--last year we hosted approximately 300 guests--and we look forward to even greater participation this year!

Please join us for an evening of art, education, celebration, and remembrance. Already confirmed for this year's event are performances by the Smoke, Lilies, and Jade Art Initiative and the Philadelphia's Gay Men's Chorus. In addition, we'll be sharing a delicious sit-down dinner alongside members from community organizations who work tirelessly year-round to serve those living with HIV and AIDS.
This year we are happy to announce that we're combining our monthly No Barriers Dinner (Philadelphia's most "dangerous" dinner party!) with our World AIDS Day event!

Join us--and bring a friend (or three!)--for this unforgettable event. We can't wait to see you there!

Arts & Culture Updates!

Arts & Culture programming is exploding this fall, with several opportunities to engage with and create art, all on Monday nights.
Check out these three programs:
Telling Stories writing workshop, Last Mondays performance events, and Voices of Broad Street chair-painting workshop.

TELLING STORIES:
POEMS, PRAYERS, AND PRAISESONGS
A (free) Writing Workshop
led by August Tarrier

EVERYONE IS WELCOME

Come and share your confessions, your cliffhangers, your good yarns, tall tales, parables, fables, and foibles. Regale us with how you ain’t gonna study war no more, down by the riverside, when you drove your Chevy to the levee, the night the music died. Hey, it’s your prerogative, this land is your land, you’re bringing in the sheaves, you got your mojo workin’, took the last train to Clarksville, rowed the boat ashore, put the load on Fannie, and shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.
We’ll explore writing in several different genres over the course of three sessions in November.

Storytellers unite! We’re waiting for the Great Leap Forward—and for you.

Monday Nov. 1st 6:00-8:00p.m.
Monday Nov. 8th 6:00-8:00p.m.
Monday Nov. 15th 6:00-8:00p.m.

8th 6Monday Nov. 15th 6:00-8:00p.m.

VOICES OF BROAD STREET:
A Unique Storytelling & Chair-painting Workshop!
led by Nick Ison

Come paint a chair with us! Starting November 1st and continuing every week, you are invited to visit the sanctuary between 7p.m. and 9p.m. to choose and paint a chair that will be used during the many different functions at Broad Street Ministry.
During that time, individuals interested in doing so will be interviewed about their stories, their ideas, and their hopes for the community which will then be shared via the BSM blog.
It doesn’t matter if you think you’re artistic or if you think you have a story to tell, all are welcome to come give a part of themselves by creating a seat for others.
Come, and let your voice be heard in this space!
Starting November 1st, 7p.m.-9p.m., EVERY Monday!
For more information, contact Liam O'Donnell at liam@broadstreetministry.org or 215 259 8276

LAST MONDAYS!
Last Mondays, a unique artistic collaboration between BSM and the Hybridge Arts Collective, returned to BSM on October 25th, and the experience just keeps getting better and better! For $5 audience members enjoyed a delicious dinner and four incredibly diverse performances, ranging from skit comedy to sound-poetry to improvisational movement. Good food, good company, an amazing atmosphere, and thought-provoking performances all made for an exceptional evening.

We can't wait to see YOU at the next Last Mondays event on Monday November 29th at 7p.m.!
