Plays and Players, South Camden Theatre Company and Iron Age Theatre are collaborating to bring a powerful work to the stage, just a few short blocks from Broad Street Ministry at 1714 Delancey Place. Howard Zinn's Voices of a People’s History of the United States brings to life the extraordinary history of ordinary people who built the movements that made the United States what it is today, ending slavery and Jim Crow, protesting war and genocide, advancing gay and women’s rights, and struggling to right wrongs of the day. These performances bring to life the words of the famous and the forgotten from U.S. history through live readings by actors of speeches, letters, essays, poems, and more. Figures like Martin Luther King, Jr., Susan B Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Kevin Tillman, Emma Goldman and Fred Hampton are revived in the production.

Special guest stars include Mike Boryla, former Pro Bowl starting quarterback from the Philadelphia Eagles, returning to Philadelphia for the first time as an activist and a playwright 35 years later, and Guy Davis, internationally renowned blues musician and son of famous actors and activists Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, who will be reading a speech written by his father and performing an original song.
