Welcome to Broad Street Ministry's online newsletter, BROADcast! May 2011 EDITION! |
WORSHIP @ BSM--May 2011 Schedule Every Sunday at 6 p.m. Followed by a delicious free dinner! Every Sunday, our community gathers to hear God's whisper breathed anew through diverse music, prayers of joy and sorrow, challenging preaching, and communion that welcomes everyone to Christ's table. Some of us come with such weight on our souls that we can barely stand upright, exhausted from the day's journey. Others come with smiling, hugging, warm jubilation that cannot be contained. Still others come knowing that this place holds a piece of them, but unsure where exactly they fit in the mosaic of faces and voices. Whether you're distracted, steadfast, frazzled, empowered, or somewhere in between, you are welcome in this place. Come and praice that God who loves us unconditionally. Come and listen for a Word from a God spoken just for you. Come, and worship. We extend the table fellowship from communion into a dinner served family style after worship. There we get to know each other a little better as we share a delicious and free meal. FREE PARKING is available on Sundays along the south side of Pine Street between Broad & 13th streets. Pick up a parking permit from the vestibule and throw it on the dashboard--or download it from the BSM website by clicking here. The Motley Order Choir, along with special guest musicians, will flood the sanctuary with music. We'll also hear from Bill Golderer, have a delicious meal and, of course, dig into birthday cake! Our birthday celebration is an opportunity to take stock of what God has done in the past year and look forward to what might lie ahead- including an overhaul of BSM's kitichen, the Youth Intiative's fourth summer, and new tiles in BSM's community room in preparation for The Broad Street Market's June opening. We have so much to celebrate with you! Please contact Lindsay Barrett for more information,lindsay@broadstreetministry. |
BSM's Brand New Look(s) BSM's community room and kitchen renovations are underway!!! Thanks again to Doylestown Presbyterian Church and all of our partners who prepare and deliver food for the 1,000+ plates that BSM dishes up every week, including: Whole Foods, Philabundance, and Wayne Presbyterian Church. We need your help to cross the finishing line! These projects are vital to creating a more hospitable environment for BSM's guests and preparing for new intiatives like The Broad Street Market, which will require additional food storage areas. Mirroring the mosaics found on the community room pillars, BSM is creating a tile mural on the back wall of the community room stage. For information about sponsoring these important projects by donating a tile for the mural, please contact Lindsay Barrett- lindsay@broadstreetministry. 100k Homes Training May 15th @ 2:00 p.m. Broad Street Ministry is proud to partner with The Bethesda Project, City of Philadelphia Office of Supportive Housing, Horizon House, Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Pathways Philadelphia, Project H.O.M.E., The United Way, and The Sheller Family Foudnation in a week-long effort to identify and help persons who are homeless obtain permanent housing. 100K Homes Philly is part of a national effort to find and place the most vulnerable, long-term homeless individuals into 100,000 homes across the country by July 2013. We need your help conducting surveys and doing outreach with our most vulnerable neighbors. Volunteering is easy- just visit the 100K Homes Philly website, click volunteer, and register! There will be a volunteer orientation Sunday, May 15th at 2:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Liam O'Donnell, atliam@broadstreetministry.org or (215)259-8276. No Barriers Dinner May 25th @ 6:00 p.m. We hope you'll join us for BSM's monthly "No Barriers Dinner", a delicious opportunity for community building and abundance in a world of scarcity. Our unique location puts us at the intersection of the Avenue of the Arts, historic concert halls, Philadelphia's cheapest hotel, and its most recognized college of art. For all of this diversity, there are few places where members of these different populations gather 'at table' for conversation, for sharing of experiences and to explore commonalities and distinctiveness. The challenge before the No Barriers Community Dinners is to gather together members of these groups in a single space by offering a restaurant quality, three course meal. For more information, please contact Lindsay Barrett,lindsay@broadstreetministry. Dublin By Lamplight Through May 14th Broad Street Ministry is blessed to yet again host a creative theater experience this spring. Inis Nua Theatre Company has already gained attention with their innovative interpretations of Celtic plays. This month concludes the American premiere of Dublin By Lamplight, a play by Michael West. Dublin By Lamplight is directed by Inis Nua's own Tom Reing and stars Charlie DelMarcelle, Mike Dees, Jared Michael Delany, Megan Bellwoar, Kevin Meehan, and Sarah Van Auken. Set in Dublin in 1904, Dublin By Lamplight combines storytelling with Commedia Dell' Arte and fantasy with the grotesque. BSM is excited to host this exciting production, running through May 14th.
