Beacon is a collaboration of Broad Street Ministry and the Philadelphia Presbytery, lead by a staff raised by BSM, but located in the Kensington/Fishtown section of Philadelphia. As a faith and arts ministry, Beacon hosts a therapeutic art studio where participants are invited and enabled to discover and express their innate creativity. Staff and volunteers facilitate this discovery-work and creative expression in order to bring about personal and community transformation.
Because of its unique location, Beacon welcomes a diverse group of neighborhood folks to the art table every Tuesday from 3:30-5:30pm and beginning in mid-March Wednesday evenings 6:00-8:00pm. Children and adults from diverse backgrounds and life experiences come together to stretch some creative muscles, get to know their neighbors, and in so doing, create a community of flourishing and positive change.
How to participate:
Consider joining us at the art table at a frequency that works for you: once a month, every other week, or once a week. You’ll help us:
• sort new donations
• create, learn, and instruct others on how to create the art project of the day
• build relationships and cultivate conversation around the table
• be flexible! Help with homework, help with clean up, play a game
