VISIONING THE GOOD SOCIETY OPENING NIGHT

VISIONING THE GOOD SOCIETY will have an opening night October 3rd at 6:30 pm! If you are interested in attending YOU MUST RSVP BY EMAILING LIAM O'DONNELL AT LIAM@BROADSTREETMINISTRY.ORG

What is VTGS?

For young people, preparing for the future means more than good grades and interesting extracurricular activities. Developing problem-solving skills, the ability to think critically and a capacity for leadership in a variety of contexts are all crucial aspects of preparation.
Broad Street Ministry, with the help of committed schools and dynamic community partners, has enabled students to explore and address societal issues on a deeper level with the
VISIONING THE GOOD SOCIETY (VTGS) program.

VTGS creates a space for students to engage difficult and timely social issues both academically and through hands on service experience. The program allows students access to an environment that encourages critical thought and leadership.

Over the last three years Visioning The Good Society has worked with 4 schools – William Penn Charter, Shipley School, Episcopal Academy, and Westtown School - and more than one hundred students, connecting them to organizations like Project Home, Ready Willing and Able, The AIDS Fund, Women Against Abuse, Witnesses to Hunger and Philabundance. Students work with and hear from these non-profit organizations about their work and the challenging issues facing people dedicated to improving our world. VTGS creates an environment where students can ask tough questions and experiment with creative answers, building them into future leaders and innovators.

1.     Individual students can register for a year long (September – May) program, which includes 16 sessions – an introduction, 8 service opportunities, and 7 panel discussions. They will participate with their peers in service, discussion, reflection and creative projects thereby developing skills in problem solving and social entrepreneurship. Students will be provided with resources for the course as well as transportation around the city as needed. The cost is $350/student for the year.

2.     Schools can register groups of up to 25 students for the program. We particularly encourage high school juniors and seniors to participate. The cost is $4,000.
