Breaking Bread UPDATE!

Extra! Extra! Breaking Bread Has New Extended Hours!! Now Open ‘til 2:30 PM!

As most of you know, Breaking Bread was never just about food. There are many places our guests could go to if that is all that mattered. What Breaking Bread has always been about is hospitality. Now we are offering more hospitality than ever before with extended hours, more services, and more opportunities to spend time creating art, conversing with each other, or just hanging out for a little while longer over coffee and desert.

The mealtime is unchanged – it is still from 11:30 am until 1 pm. After lunch guests are now invited to go to the larger room on the lower level. The therapeutic arts table is now in that space, and tables are set up for guests who may want to play chess, or chat over coffee, or even play a spirited round of Spades.

We hope you'll come & join us on your lunch break--enjoy some lunch, make some art, or play a game.

SPECIAL Volunteer & Donation OPPORTUNITY!:

When some of our most basic needs are not met – like the need for shelter – many other pressing needs also come into sharper focus. The staff at Breaking Bread sees this very clearly each week as the demand for personal hygiene items is growing, while the supply has not kept up with this demand. Such items in themselves may seem small, but they can have a dramatic impact on the dignity of our guests. In the very near future we hope to create a Supply Cabinet to address this need.

We are in the early stages of implementing this idea and we could use your help. Perhaps you have a collection of those small shampoo bottles from all those business trips you took last year. Or those extra disposable razors in your own cabinet. Or you may know a dentist who has a small treasure trove of sample toothbrushes and toothpaste. If so, why not bring them to BSM one Sunday, or get in touch with Amy Carlson to see how you can help stock this cabinet.

One of the many challenges to this offering to our guests is to develop a way to distribute these items in a dignified and respectful way. You may be able to help with this as well. Volunteers will be needed soon to help organize these supplies and create gender appropriate packets. This would be a wonderful opportunity for a group or club to come to BSM for a few hours each month to help make it possible for some of our guests to leave Breaking Bread and go back onto the streets with a bit more dignity than they had when they arrived.
